VarioLoc® Hip stem

VarioLoc

The straight stem design on which the VarioLoc® stem is based has been successful in hip arthroplasty for more than a quarter of a century.

The principle of a self-locking double-taper femoral stem was originally described by M. E. Müller. Together with the anatomical curvature of the femur, the bone contact in the frontal plane reinforces the wedging in the sagittal plane.

Simplicity and excellent results of similar stems (Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Registry: 10-year survival rate 97.8%) make this implant standard in hip replacement.

  • Wedge-shaped prosthesis design secured against rotation
    >Proven clinically worldwide in millions of cases

  • Simple implantation technique
    >thanks to the well-engineered VarioLoc® instrument set

  • Bone sparing design
    <
for the trochanter region by virtue of the lateral shoulder and the narrow a/p cross-section of the prosthesis

  • Optimized surface design
    >for cementless and cemented implantation

Cemented version:

The polished stem together with the rounded edges prevent stress on the cement mantle.

Cementless version:

The titanium plasma spray-coated surface in the proximal part of the stem facilitates rapid and resilient bone ingrowth at the titanium stem.

Applicable for both versions:

The wide medio-lateral cross-section provides for anti-rotational security.
