aap Implantate AG acquires 30% stake in Gesellschaft für Elektro-Osteotherapie (GEOT) mbH

Option on further 21%
Approved process for promoting and accelerating bone healing
Great market potential

Berlin, October 4, 2000. aap Implantate AG, Berlin, a life science company listed on the Frankfurt Neuer Markt, has acquired a 30% stake in Munich-based Gesellschaft für Elektro-Osteotherapie mbH (GEOT). In addition, aap has an option to acquire a further 21% during the next two years.

Gesellschaft für Elektro-Osteotherapie GmbH has developed a process for promoting and accelerating bone healing that is acknowledged to have unique selling prepositions. It has been approved by Germany's Bundesausschuss der Ärzte und Krankenkassen, the doctors' and health insurers' regulatory body, and included in their list of approved aids. The new method markedly improves the efficiency of treatment in cases of severe traumatic and pathological bone damage and can be integrated into surgical and orthopaedic implants. Given that roughly 340,000 prosthetic systems are implanted each year in Germany alone, aap sees "extraordinary market potential,". The new process of GEOT can be combined with the aap products like the BNT (Biorigider Nagel Tibia) sowie BFS (Biorigider Femur System).

As well as acquiring a stake in the company, aap Implantate AG is taking over the marketing of GEOT products. Gesellschaft für Elektro-Osteotherapie GmbH (GEOT) expects its new partner will enable it to achieve faster technical implementation of developments and greater market penetration.

The management of aap Implantate AG considers the strategic stake in GEOT mbH as an "additional strategic step" - independent of the projects in progress on company acquisitions.
